Bucket List – 25 things to do before 25 – Update

So last year, just after my Birthday I uploaded this post, containing my bucket list for things I want to achieve before I turn 25 and as that is only 4 months away I thought I would do a quick update!

So here are my 25 things to do before I am 25:-

  1. Go on a holiday by myself – America 2015 (there have been so many posts about this holiday and it will be one I will remember forever)
  2. Get back into reading non law related books – growing up I read loads and once I started studying, reading turned into textbooks and cases and journals, apart from the odd reading book on holiday – I read quite a lot of books whilst on holiday and some were slightly law related but not all, my favourite book on holiday was Sunny Schwartz, Dreams for a Monster Factory, and I also read Harper Lee’s, Go Set A Watchman last year too!
  3. Go to the theatre with Roo (we used to go a lot, and I owe her a theatre trip and dinner out!)
  4. Book some form of weekend away with Rachael, Isobel and my Mum – the 4 of us have not been away together in years! – We are all off to Centre Parcs for a long weekend in June and it is booked so I definitely know we are going!
  5. Go to a Liverpool match with my Dad, we used to go a lot when I was growing up and I would absolutely love to go again – In 2015 my dad, little little sister and I went to the Liverpool v Totthenham Under 21s football match, which was great fun!
  6. As of January 1st 2016 I want to start one of those jars where you write your memories down and then at the end of the year look back on all you have done, they can be tiny things; such as going out for lunch with a friend or buying a pair of shoes or much bigger things, such as weddings, birthdays etc… It is going to be a reminder of all the things that everyone of us end up forgetting we have done!
  7. Go on some day trips by myself in the UK and eat out somewhere by myself in a proper restaurant
  8. Take Isobel to Brighton for the day (as I promised her we would go in the Summer of 2015 as she would have finished her first year at Secondary School) – we need to put a date in the diary for this!
  9. Start the BPTC – Started this last September and you can follow my stories and journey on here and specifically with my #diaryofaptbptcstudent blog posts
  10. Go to some of my Dining Sessions at Middle Temple (I will explain about this in more detail in a blog post over the next few months) – I went to a lot of Qualifying Sessions last term and with the exception of 1 or 2 they were all dining ones
  11. Get better at promoting and marketing my blog (something I have never really had to do in general before, and something I definitely need to work on) – I have started to do this, and have regular tweets (one per day) going out scheduled on Buffer linking to my blog, but I still tweet individually myself as and when I want to!  I also have flyers which I am so excited to send out to people/universities etc.
  12.  Get back into writing cards and letters – they are so much more personal than emails and texts, and this year I sent a random few Thank You cards to people after lunches out etc. and I absolutely loved how happy it made them – so my goal is to send 10 cards on random occasions by my 25th Birthday – I have made a conscious effort to send cards this year, and have already sent 10!
  13.  See another comedian live – this is one of my favourite things to do, and it feels like it has been a while since I have seen someone live, so I want to get something booked up! – I had booked tickets ages ago to see Chris Ramsey in London in October/November 2015 but sadly they had to cancel as the Bloomsbury Theatre flooded or something.
  14.  This is really geeky, but I want to book a train ticket up North somewhere and get on the train with my Mac and spend the day blogging and writing! – I did go to Manchester in November 2015 and spent a considerable amount of time on the journey up and back blogging – I can’t wait to show you all what I was doing in Manchester!
  15.  Go on another “grown up” law course (there will be a two blog posts going up shortly on my first ever one day “grown up” law course, and also my first ever overnight “grown up” law course) – In November last year I went to an A-Z on Clinical Negligence course through MBL Seminars which was really interesting (but also very very similar to one particular module I studied on my medical law module at University)
  16.  Do something that makes my heart race! (I have something in mind for my upcoming holiday…but we will see if it happens – if not I will think of something else) – I think my whole holiday by myself in America was one of those “this is amazing but I can’t believe that I am doing this” type moments.  I had so many amazing experiences and one of them has to be horse-riding up the hills in Hollywood to the Hollywood Sign – it was amazing, breath taking views and surprisingly easy to do, even if you were on a horse on the edge of a cliff – I am so pleased I was brave enough to sit on the horse and give it a go!
  17.  Graduate from my Law Degree – if any of you know me, I have always wanted to do a law degree and then go on to study the BPTC – so being able to graduate is going to be a massive milestone for me – So this all happened last year as you know from the blog posts, I graduated in September (which is early for Herts as normally it is November) and then started the BPTC 3 days later!
  18.  Put myself forward for the UK Blog Awards 2016 when the applications open later on this year – Done – though I am not expecting to be shortlisted, not only because being shortlisted last year was such a shock, but because I am not massively promoting my blog and asking for votes.  Last year I didn’t do much in terms of campaigning for votes, and the same applies this year – I would rather you read my blog posts than voted for me – plus the rules have changed this year and people can vote once a day, and I don’t want to be spamming you all daily!
  19.  Step out of my comfort zone and try something I would never considered before – stepping out of my comfort zone massively enabled me to go to America on my own for 3 weeks and travel around, from sunset river cruises in San Francisco, surf lessons in Santa Barbara and a helicopter ride to the Grand Canyon meant I really pushed myself in having the best holiday and exploring as much as I could, with the added extras of sunny days on the beach and by the pool as well!  I have a feeling 2016 is going to see me step out of my comfort zone a lot more!
  20.  Go to a hot yoga class (I don’t do yoga but it is something I have always wanted to try, just once)
  21.  Be able to comfortably run 5k – this is just a personal challenge but by putting it on here I now have to actually go out and do it! – This is on track for my 25th Birthday
  22.  Continue my ever growing collection of box sets (as I don’t think I have bought any series/seasons this year so far – which is very unlike me) – I have a few new box sets that I have watched and one of my favourites has to be How To Get Away With Murder
  23.  Undertake some volunteer work (due to time this will most likely be in the form of some Pro Bono work that I really want to undertake anyways but is also necessary with the BPTC) – I am still volunteering with Big Voice London which I love, and I also have my first class
  24.  Continue to work on and develop Lawyer In The Making (I am so excited for the year ahead), but also still update you on what I am up to as my career progresses, (and maybe do a Vlog) – I think this can definitely be ticked off, my blog has grown a lot and I still blog about the original themes/reasons for starting my blog – sharing my career updates and legal news, but I have also added lots more to the blog!  Lawyer In The Making has developed a lot, and I was so excited last year for all the things happening, and even more excited to see what the coming year brings!
  25. Spend the year creating some amazing memories, and to remind myself to have a life despite working, studying the BPTC as of September and attempting to blog! – This year has been full of amazing opportunities, memories and spending time developing my career, but also with friends and family!  I have had some great days out with the people I love most, but also some experiences I never would have imagined happening, and that’s all thanks to my blog!  Who knew 2015 was the year I would have an interview on the radio!  I had an amazing holiday, graduated, have started the BPTC, and now turned my blog into my job! I am grateful for all of the opportunities I have had, and also for your blog support and hope you continue to enjoy the blog as it grows over the coming year!

I will put up the completed list in 4 months time!  I think I might have to create a bucket list for things to achieve with my blog this, lots is planned which I am very excited about!
