One of the news headlines in the last few weeks was that of a former Oxford University student who launched a legal challenge against Oxford University’s policy on investigating complaints of rape and sexual assault.
Elizabeth Ramey reported an alleged assault back in 2011 and she claims that the University failed to investigate this allegation properly and they failed to take any action against the alleged perpetrator.
Whilst the policy has now been amended, Elizabeth Ramey still argues that the policy entitles the university to avoid investigating claims of sexual assault.
This is a very serious topic and it should be properly investigated whenever there are claims of an alleged sexual assault or rape, whether that be out in public, at work, at university etc.
I also think that something needs to be done to rectify the names of the alleged perpetrators who actually have done nothing wrong, but their names have been dragged through the dirt, only to be found not guilty or even worse when the victim admits that they lied about the whole event. That person’s life is already ruined and whilst I don’t know what could be done to rectify it, something does need to be done!
You can’t drag people’s names through the dirt when they have done nothing wrong, when the victims remain their anonymity and even worse sometimes keep their anonymity when they have lied!
Let me know your thoughts on this… I haven’t ever seen a “reporting rape and sexual assault policy” so would like to know your thoughts on the topic in general…
