So it has been speculated that 2014 may be the year some of the largest value trials to date hit the High Court – with 2014 taking financial disputes to an all new-level!
A total of 14 of The Lawyer’s top 20 cases have a value of over £100m, with two of those cases being worth more than £1bn. The largest case of 2014 which will no doubt attract a lot of media coverage is the £3bn group litigation claim against RBS and its former management team.
2014 will see claims relating to the crash from UBS, Bank of St Petersburg and JP Morgan. There will also be three major professional negligence claims with some well known names as defendants, Clifford Chance Germany, Weil Gotshal & Manges and also Nabarro.
There will also be a £300m claim against the Serious Fraud Office being pursued by the Tchenguiz brothers. Also coming under the judicial microscope this year, will be a battle concerning the refusal of Insurer Travellers to pay out on a claim.
It is definitely going to be a big year – and it is my aim to keep an eye on these cases as they develop and give you an update.
